Death clean-ups depend on the type of death involved, weather, furnishings, type of floor, types of carpet if there's a carpet, and more. Even a decedant's dietary habits may come into play in some cases. Furnishing may be recovered in some instances. If so, cleaning these takes time. Floors become a serious issue when decomposition clean-up comes into consideration. Blood and opim may reach the floor. When this happens, each type of floor has it characteristic porosity. Each concrete floor has a unique surface. Some have many, tiny air pockets -- pores. Some have fewer. Put another way, a polished concrete floor like those found at Home Depot have much less porosity than floor with a lot of portland cement on top. So fluids will migrate readily on a polished concrete floor, less so on others. Vinyl covering allows fluids to easily migrate to walls and even other rooms. Given conditions, fluid may slowly drip below a subfloor, onto air conditioning and heating ducts, and slowly make its way to a ceiling below. There it may enter another room, if not an entirerly different dwelling place. These situations are rare. but they do occur. Other non-porous floors allow for similar outcomes. So blood and other potentially infectious materials migrate given conditions. Weather, sized decedant, cause of death, time down, type of wounds if any, and more. Grout and caulking become important in bathrooms and elsewhere. Sometimes blood reaches a toilet and without adequate caulking, makes its way under the toilet. This adds to time and work. After rmoving a toilet, the area below must be cleaned. Then death clean-up must include cleaning a death scenes toilet, but this type of clean-up becomes questionable on practical and ethical grounds. For one, how much cleaning must be done to return a toilet to service? Sometimes a toilet has heavy soiling from years of use. Would everyone benefit by destroying such a toilet? Now fluids may find their way below the toilet. Perhaps these fluids find their way between two layers of vinyl floor covering. The top layer was added to cover the bottom, older layer, which we find in many apartment buildings. Now we're looking at a major fluid migration between two layers of vinyl. So now we must remove each layer, remove blood between each, and disinfect all areas related to these vinyl layers. Then we begin on the toilet as mentioned above.
